From Malaysia, 7 of us flew to Jakarta for Reno's wedding to Eri Dani. Reno & family comes so often to KL that it's been 10 yrs since I last visited her family at Jakarta. It was my first Minang wedding - very interesting. Their akad nikah is very menyayat hati - I have to admit, I was a bit shocked hehe. From the bride having to seek for forgiveness & permission in front of everyone to the ceramah agama being given by a most passionate/enthusiastic/crying preacher. Dang, if they had this in Msia, I'm positive there would be less divorces/affairs!
Dinner being served in stalls & cocktail styled is very different compared to Malaysia. Plus point is that there's lots of variety of food - from dim sum, to korean bbq, to chicken pie soup ala Dome Cafe etc unlike Malaysian weddings with their predictable rendang, dalca, ayam masak merah, sweet & sour prawns. The negative - having to stand! Luckily, there were a spot with tables with a small selection of the food for family members!!!
Another difference - couple & their parents didnt go down to eat first like in Msia. They actually stood to shake hands with 1000 guests (non stop) while we all ate. Dang!!! They eat only after they've finished shaking hands and taking pics with guest.
And it was nice to see the family members taking turns singing and dancing the pocho-pocho.
